MEET YOU ON THE MOON
Lyrics and music by Michael Phillips

The tune and the arrangment underscore the sentimentality of this song about a distant love between a man and a woman who run into each other in the streets, and maybe dream up a common future, whose love, however, for some reason or other, is not likely to work out now and here on earth. So, the narrator hopes for a future and some place 'in space' where this might be possible some day.

When I see you in the street
From a distance far too long,
I´m about to burst out shouting,
'I hope we´ll make it soon'.
But with your steps controlled by haste
And your looks always intense,
You´re so detached and out of reach,
In such a scene I lose my speech,
But maybe in another lifetime,
I´ll meet you on the moon.

I wish we there was a conversation
Free from commitments and unrest
In a posh restaurant
Or in a greasy spoon,
But no time seems the right time,
Not the daytime, nor the nighttime,
To hear what´s troubling your mind,
To share the things with you that bind,
But maybe in another lifetime,
I´ll meet you on the moon.

Bridge:
I know the odds are against us,
And we can´t steal away from today,
But if this is not the place and time to meet,
Why not a planet in space some day?

I wish we had an hour
To be just by ourselves,
But it´s just wishes flying as high
As a child´s balloon. Every time we make an arrangement,
Something keeps getting in the way,
And I can´t stop us from losing touch,
And I can´t give you what you need so much,
But maybe in another lifetime,
I´ll meet you on the moon.

Bridge:
I know the odds are against us,
And we can´t steal away from today,
But if this is not the place and time to meet,
Why not a planet in space some day?
I dream of lying in a meadow,
Rocking you gently in my arms,
Nobody else around
On a mellow afternoon.
But there´s always a sense of hiding
And of being on the run,
Be there no more 'I must be going's,
No more 'Will we meet again?'s,
Let´s just hope for another lifetime,
And for meeting on the moon.
Meeting on the moon.
Meeting on the moon.
